Prisco’s NFL conference championship picks: Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs take road to Super Bowl; Lions-49ers tight

I went to the dogs last week, and my picks were a lot like what comes out of a dog when you walk them. They stunk just as bad, too. It was not a good divisional round for me. I went 1-3 both straight up and against the spread. That's bad. I called for the Green Bay Packers to upset the San Francisco 49ers, a game I should have gotten right. It was my only ATS winner. For the season, I am now 172-110 straight up and 140-131-11 ATS. You would think after last week I would avoid the dogs. But I am going right back to them when it comes to my ATS picks -- and I think one will win the game outright. I just hope they don't stink like they did a week ago. Kansas City Chiefs (+3.5) at Baltimore RavensSunday, 3 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+) This is Lamar Jackson vs. Patrick Mah...

Why hiring Doc Rivers would be a mistake for the Milwaukee Bucks

Don't do it, Milwaukee Bucks. Swerve. Stop. Break. Take a breath. Just don't hire Doc Rivers as your next head coach. That, with the news Tuesday that the Bucks fired head coach Adrian Griffin and are eying Doc Rivers, is our last-ditch effort at offering the best advice that organization may ever get: Don't do it. Don't hire Doc. Don't entrust him with this 30-13 team with championship aspirations but a clearly volatile set of expectations and frustrations. Don't let him be the head coach to unlock the still-figuring-it-out duo of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard. Don't turn to a perpetual postseason collapser to try and get you back to the promised land of an NBA Finals. This is not some idle, throwaway thought, and it comes as the NBA on TNT erred - or at least j...

Pixel 9 Pro: CAD renders of upcoming flagship emerge online

With the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro still months away from its Q2 2024 launch, a lot of information about the upcoming flagships remains unknown. So far, the duo are rumoured to launch with an enhanced version of the Google Assistant called Google Pixie. Renowned leaker OnLeaks teamed up with MySmartPrice to draw up some CAD renders of the Pixel 9 Pro. At first glance, it is apparent that Google got its design from the Pixel 9 Pro's camera housing from its arch nemesis, Apple. The pill-shaped layout, while somewhat identical to that of the Pixel 8 Pro ($999 on Best Buy), bears an uncanny resemblance to Dynamic Island. On that, we can see three camera sensors, one of which is a telephoto lens. A temperature sensor seems to be included, too. The camera bump looks hefty, meaning you'll need ...

A little over a month and a half after its Chinese launch, OnePlus has officially announced pricing and a release date for its latest flagship in global markets. It’s one of a trio of devices OnePlus is launching today, with the other two being the lower-end OnePlus 12R and the OnePlus Buds 3 true wireless earbuds. You can check out my colleague Allison Johnson’s full review of the OnePlus 12 right here, but the TL;DR is that this is a phone with flagship specs that does a good job of nailing the basics. It offers great battery life, a big screen with an impressively high claimed peak brightness of 4,500 nits, and a good camera. Ther...

eBay to eliminate 1,000 roles, reducing full-time workforce by 9%: ‘This is not easy’

eBay will begin reducing its workforce by approximately 9% – about 1,000 full-time roles – in efforts to "better position eBay for long-term, sustainable growth," the company announced Tuesday. In a news release, which was also sent to employees, eBay president and CEO Jamie Iannone said the "fundamental changes" put into place over the past three years have "accelerated the pace of innovation" and resulted in increased customer satisfaction and improved market growth, but "there is more" the company can do to be successful. "We need to better organize our teams for speed – allowing us to be more nimble, bring like-work together, and help us make decisions more quickly," Iannone wrote. Described as the "most significant and toughest of the decisions," Iannone said the company wil...

Netflix subscribers surge as revenue beats estimates

Netflix (NFLX) said Tuesday that its fourth quarter subscriber additions surged, topping its own forecast and sending its stock as much as 10% higher in premarket trading on Wednesday. The subscriber additions of 13.12 million beat Netflix's own forecast of about 9 million with full-year 2023 net additions sitting at roughly 30 million. The company had added 7.67 million paying users in Q4 2022. Revenue beat Wall Street estimates of $8.71 billion to hit $8.83 billion in the quarter, an increase of 12.5% compared to the same period last year, as the streamer leaned on revenue initiatives like its crackdown on password sharing and ad-supported tier, in addition to the recent price hikes on certain subscription plans. Netflix guided to first quarter revenue of $9.24 billion, roughly...

First Apple Vision Pro pre-orders now shipping to buyers for February 2 launch

After pre-orders kicked off on Friday, the first Apple Vision Pro shipments are on their way to early buyers. Vision Pro orders are departing Apple’s facilities via UPS, and here’s how you can check your order status. If you check your Vision Pro order status via Apple’s website, you’ll likely see that your device is still “preparing to ship.” This is because Apple waits until closer to the official release date of a new product to update the shipping status on its end, even if the actual package is now in the hands of its shipping partner. But as anyone who has pre-ordered an iPhone or other Apple device in the past likely knows, there’s a workaround to this. If you go to the UPS website, you can track the progress of your order and watch as it makes its way to your state. The b...

Exxon Mobil sues ESG investors to keep climate proposals off shareholder ballot

Exxon Mobil filed a lawsuit on Sunday in a Texas court that seeks to block activist investors from bringing a climate proposal up for a vote during the company’s shareholder meeting in May. The lawsuit marks the first time Exxon has moved to block a shareholder proposal through a court complaint. The case was assigned to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas and has been assigned to Judge Reed O’Connor, an appointee of former President George W. Bush who has a record of ruling in favor of conservative litigants. Exxon says the investors are "driven by an extreme agenda" and that their repeated proposals don’t serve the best interests of investors or promote long-term shareholder value. The company is asking the court to allow it to exclude the activist sharehold...
